Soccer Mom

It's official. I am a soccer mom.

It's crazy and I'm hanging on by a thread.

Fitting in, though, has not been easy.

11th Hour

While my client was away in Hawaii it was my job to get his sofa and two poufs reupholstered.

The upholsterer was right on schedule until he unrolled the end of the 24 yards of Peter Fasano's Venetian Velvet in Porcini. It was crimped and creased at the end. Bummer but these things happen. Thank god for Fed Ex. So...here I am driving 3 extra yards of velvet to the shop that was overnighted to me (thank you Salty Pete!).

This stuff HAS to be ready as he is having a party on Friday. A welcome home party. A Truman Capote ode to his fabulous self sort of party.

An 'as his decorator I would have to drape my martini fueled self over the missing cushions all night' sort of party.

Well, it all worked out. Cushions completed. The sofa looks like a silver mink stole. The poufs were repoufed with the back side of an apple green Groves Bros. fabric.

Done? No. It's funny how if you work on a room slowly...the room will tell you what it needs. I don't mean to get ouiji on you...but it's true. I think that is why MOST 48 hr makeovers don't get it right...because the decorators didn't get a chance to listen. To the ouiji. Ness. Of the room. Listen room. This is what you need. Next. A wool and silk Tibetan from Kelly W. at The Rug Company.

Pinch Me Stools

I am going to call these guys the Pinch Me Stools because these are what dreams are made of...

Just mix up a little Ficks Reed rattan with a little moody colored Groves Bros. hand-printed cotton...

...throw in a little Teflon coating just in case...and voilĂ ...you've got yourself a couple of Pinch Me Stools.

Benchmark

This is a recently completed bedroom for a client. The client that gave me the frogs. The frog that was told to sit on the dollhouse sofa and not move while Estelle and her friend went DOWNSTAIRS. Well, the frog is missing... I digress.

This bedroom...is really full of my favorite things. Rose Tarlow curtains, Phillip Jeffries grasscloth, Mitchell Gold end tables, Lee Industries headboard covered in a Groves Bros. fabric, lamps from the Pearl district in Portland, bedding by Matouk and the benches. The benches! OMG. I took my client shopping in Portland to Asia America. Five floors of antiques. I turned the corner and there. They. Were. Anglo Indian inlaid bone benches. My reaction was to turn her in the opposite direction. To fake a bathroom emergency. Pretend to have low blood sugar in need of food. Now. Anything. These were the benches I had imagined would be in MY house. They were the benches of my dreams. Instead, I took the high road and did what every good designer should do. I told her if you don't buy them I will. She did. And they launched this room. Which I think turned out beautifully. I just ask that they be willed to me. That's fair, right?

Decorating Upside Down

Stopped by my dream house today.

We decided that this will be going on the sofa...chocolate brown linen velvet by Great Plains.

I then threw out the most perfect Groves Bros. fabric for the poufs. My client said, "That would be good." Then he turned it over and said, "...but this would be perfect."

And he was sooo right.......................................

Italian Settee

I am donating this settee to a local auction to benefit Volunteers in Medicine but I told the Chair that if she doesn't pick it up soon I'm keeping it. This bench was like Silkwood before I had it schelacked to seal in the chipping lead paint. I have such a crush on Groves Bros. fabric that I had some pillows made for it out of their Monferato in Pear. Simple cream linen and Samuel & Sons flat braid. Totally gorgy. I hope some rich childless woman buys it for lots of money.
