Wendy's House

My friend Wendy had already taken a classic ranch house and updated it with
some great finishes...carrera marble, subway tiles, seagrass, etc...
She's good like that...but she needed some stuff. Correction. Some tough stuff.
Wendy has three boys.

So, we started with the entry. I had an old runner in my storage unit. Of course.

I found this gorgeous dusty blue chest from Legends of Asia
and had a custom bamboo framed mirror made.

Next came this West Elm lacquer tray and these adorable
old Chinese lamps from Pewter Rabbit Antiques.

New shades and finials were a must.

Wendy had this little built-in and custom carrera table already
(I told you she was good). I just had a cushion made, found these
111 Navy chairs (made from recycled coke bottles)...

...and added a few pillows in Rose Tarlow's Medici. Easy.

The dining room. Millbrook pendants from Currey & Co. LOVE these.

Pillows in Lee Jofa's Twister and a linen bench cushion.

Limed gray oak table by Zentique.

Plus, two Eames Molded Plastic chairs in Java. Done.

Living room. New slipcover for the ottoman in Peter Dunham's Ikat in
Peacock. Trim used around the bottom was cut from the pillow fabric.
I spent awhile figuring this out. I know it looks obvious but I was briefly tortured.

 Jasper's Indian Flower.

Inlaid tray from the wonder bunnies in India via Wunderley. Of course.

Scribble bench.

Recovered in velvet from Econo Sales. $12.99/yd.
See people? I can be frugal. Not often but it happens.

Plus, Wendy's gorgeous paintings from Catherine Maize.

And it's a wrap.

Patience

I bought a Paul McCobb stool by Calvin on ebay. For $200.
Then I stashed it in a closet. For 6 years.

Last year I pulled it out and had it reupholstered
with Dedar's cotton/linen/silk charcoal ikat.

Then I started looking for it's twin. They were out there but
they were no longer $200. Not even close. I finally found
one, though...from the adorable Nathan Turner.

It arrived on a giant truck.

The movers brought it in. White glove. Which was hilarious.

A little more ikat and a little more time and it will look just like this.

And finish this.

Lesson? Patience is a virtue. No, patience is bloody expensive.

Go to etsy and type in velvet + ikat.

...and you can have Jacqui Getty's look. For less.

A Little Thing

Sometimes it's the little things that do it for me.

This Paul McCobb brass stool by the Calvin Company did just that...
I had the brass x-base replated and the cushion reupholstered in
Dedar's silk ikat in charcoal.

Disclaimer: If it's little it better be good.

Straight Eye...

Bedroom project done!

Thom Filicia's Marshall Street Bed by Vanguard in gray looks absolutely
divine. My client might be turning 70 but the only mumu that he is interested in is his
headboard. It is upholstered in Holly Hunt's pewter cowhide. Moo. Moo.
Vintage side tables by Michael Taylor for Baker came from my storage unit.

The Robsjohn Gibbings slipper chair was refinished and redressed in
Larsen's butterscotch velvet to match the custom coverlet.
Lucite table and 19th Century Japanese screen are mouth watering.

The bolsters made from Dedar's silk Bukara ikat kill me, though.
Especially that one by the headboard with those silk tassels from Lee Jofa.

The kitschy lamps from Hawaii might not be my thing but for a guy
who spends a 1/3 of the year there and 2/3 of the year in rainy Oregon...
well, who can blame him.
We all get a little sun deprived here...maybe he is onto something.

Kindle Me This, Kindle Me That...Just One More Reason to Buy Ikat

I bought a Kindle.

I bought Diane von Furstenberg's ikat cover.

It has a pink slip.

Naughty but nice...

Reading is hot.
