Straight Eye...

Bedroom project done!

Thom Filicia's Marshall Street Bed by Vanguard in gray looks absolutely
divine. My client might be turning 70 but the only mumu that he is interested in is his
headboard. It is upholstered in Holly Hunt's pewter cowhide. Moo. Moo.
Vintage side tables by Michael Taylor for Baker came from my storage unit.

The Robsjohn Gibbings slipper chair was refinished and redressed in
Larsen's butterscotch velvet to match the custom coverlet.
Lucite table and 19th Century Japanese screen are mouth watering.

The bolsters made from Dedar's silk Bukara ikat kill me, though.
Especially that one by the headboard with those silk tassels from Lee Jofa.

The kitschy lamps from Hawaii might not be my thing but for a guy
who spends a 1/3 of the year there and 2/3 of the year in rainy Oregon...
well, who can blame him.
We all get a little sun deprived here...maybe he is onto something.

Indie Goods

Well, the results from the India experiement are in. I could not be more happy with the craftsmanship. The inlay is really beautiful and the furniture well-made.

We did learn a few lessons, though. Lesson number one. India does not understand packaging quite like China does...

Everything came in damaged and had be restored with clamps and glue.

Lesson number two. In India, 'dark brown' might mean 'orange'.

So, I had a toner put on these benches.

Other than that...we're good.

Lead Foot

This leaded cabinet survived The Great Depression, WWII, Vietnam, the first moon landing, Studio 54, 80's shoulder pads and Arsenio Hall.

It did not survive Charles' right Puma.

Excuse me.

There is something on your bottom and it has got to go.

Don't worry, though, you won't feel a thing.

Custom vs. Customs

Our custom furniture from India FINALLY arrived at the receiving dock.

My client headed up to Portland to pick it up. She met with customs. They asked her what kind of wood. They asked her what kind of inlay. "Uh, camel bone?" She was right. Camel bone. Naturally shed camel bone.

Unfortunately, the sweaty customs guy in his fluorescent lit laminate clad office didn't like that answer. Client sent home. Furniture sent to customs at FISH & WILDLIFE. Seriously.

Bastards. Camel bone fearing bastards. It's funny. Ish.

R.I.P.

(1920-2010) Mrs. Quan Yin, 90, died October 2nd at my home.

She had been married to Mr. Quan Yin for 90 years. She never had any children and excelled at nothing except occasionally lighting up a room when she was turned on. Often mistaken for an albino, Mrs. Yin was a simple blanc de chine gal from China. She is survived only by her husband, Mr. Quan Yin.

Her death occurred under suspicious circumstances and the case remains under investigation. It is known that there are a handful of persons of interest.

Mr. Quan Yin has been questioned but he isn't talking.

There was also a pair of Venetian Blackamoors in the same room at the time of the accident.

They swear they were just doing their job and protecting the bar.

These knicker wearing boys, though, have been known to dip into the sauce while on the job so their testimony might not hold up.

In lieu of flowers, please leave your favorite lamp on my doorstep.
